Spring Yoga: Detox the Body, Clear the Mind

Spring offers a quiet invitation to shed what’s heavy — to breathe deeper, move intentionally and align with what matters. As nature begins its seasonal refresh, many of us feel an urge to do the same. Yoga offers a gentle path toward not just physical renewal, but mental wellbeing as well.

At Modern Minds, we understand that healing and growth aren’t about fixing ourselves — they’re about reconnecting with what supports us. Spring can be a powerful reminder to open up, let go and create space for clarity.

“Yoga is a unique practice because it works with both body and mind simultaneously,” said Tina Kaminski, Director of Clinical Education at Modern Minds. “It invites us to notice — without judgment — what we’re holding onto, and to gently explore what it might be like to release that tension.”

A Sequence to Support Spring Renewal

The following yoga poses are often linked to detoxifying the body, supporting the lymphatic and digestive systems and encouraging movement of stagnant energy. Each posture offers a chance to pause, breathe and tune into the present moment.

  • Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): This familiar shape stretches the entire body while supporting circulation and the lymphatic system. As you hold the pose, let your breath anchor you. Notice what it’s like to feel grounded in your own strength.
  • Twisted Chair (Parivrtta Utkatasana): Twists can stimulate digestion and offer a sense of release. They also ask us to stay steady through discomfort — without rushing to escape it.
  • Revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana): A pose of balance and core activation, Revolved Triangle invites you to slow down and move with intention, even when things feel unsteady.
  • Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana): This calming fold supports the abdominal organs and encourages inward reflection. Let it be a space to rest — to listen more deeply.
  • Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana): An energizing posture that opens the chest and lungs, Bridge also reminds us of the power of breath in helping us shift and reset.
  • Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana): A gentle backbend that invites you to rise with the breath and open to the day ahead with a sense of renewal.

“The beauty of this practice is that it doesn’t require perfection,” Kaminski said. “Every pose is a chance to notice where you are, to come back to your breath, and to move forward with intention.”

From Movement to Meaning

While the physical benefits of yoga are well known — improved strength, flexibility and circulation — its deeper impact often shows up in our day-to-day lives. When we move with awareness, we’re more likely to respond with awareness. When we breathe through challenge, we become more resilient.

As the days grow longer and the air begins to soften, spring is an invitation to reconnect with yourself through movement, breath and presence. Not to change who you are — but to care for yourself in the here and now.
