Yin yoga is a style of yoga that focuses on flexibility and relaxation rather than building strength, and it’s part of Modern Minds holistic approach to mental wellbeing.

The goal of yin yoga is to open the body’s ligaments and fascia, or the connective tissue that wraps around and supports every structure in your body, while balancing the body’s energy channels.

Yin yoga has three principals:

  • Find an appropriate “edge.” Meaning not the deepest express of the shape but one you can hold comfortably for period of time.
  • Commit to stillness.
  • Commit to staying for a length of time.

Yin yoga has numerous physical and mental benefits. Physically, yin yoga increases flexibility and a connection with breath, improves circulation and enhances the range of motion. Mentally, it helps emotional balance while reducing symptoms of stress, depression, anxiety and sleep disturbances.
