Lauren H. Carter, Ph.D. serves as the Clinical Director at Modern Minds, ensuring best-in-class delivery of evidence-based psychotherapy and integrative wellness plans. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and Affiliate Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Carter grew up in Columbia, S.C. and was a nationally-ranked hurdler, which set the stage for her appreciation of mind-body wellness. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Wofford College (S.C.) and her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Florida State University. Dr. Carter completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship and post-doctoral fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at MUSC. Following the fellowship, she joined the faculty at MUSC where she specializes in the intersection of physical and mental health and interdisciplinary approaches to patient care. Dr. Carter has helped establish grant-funded multidisciplinary, integrated clinics in a variety of populations at MUSC to make care more accessible to clients. She has published on the development of these clinics in peer reviewed journals and presented at regional and national conferences. In addition to clinical care and research, Dr. Carter is heavily engaged in resident education and training, for which she has been recognized for her outstanding impact on training. Dr. Carter values being active and exploring the Lowcountry with her husband, two daughters, and their very energetic German Shepherd. She and her family can often be found enjoying their weekends on the beach combing for shark teeth, exploring a new park, or connecting with family and friends over a good meal.
